False Positive PCR?

I (30F) was recently admitted to the ER for PID with a 4cm cyst on one of my ovaries. This was following two IUD insertions over the last month (one was expulsed within two weeks of insertion). My test results came back with a positive trachomatis PCR so my partner of over a year (only partner) went to their provider and was tested as well and given antibiotics. The test results are back and my partner tested negative (which I was shown so have complete verification). Is it possible that either of us have a false result? If so, what would cause this to happen?
