Scared to switch medication

Post Content

I’ve been taking Vyvanse since October and have slowly moved from 10mg up to 40mg which I’ve been taking for two months. Something I’ve noticed is that I am completely apathetic toward any and everything. I don’t care to go to class. I don’t care to do homework. I just do not care. And I noticed this feeling when I first began taking the medication but I enjoyed it as someone who struggles a lot with anxiety. Now, however, I think that i have officially had enough. I can’t carry conversations, I barely laugh, I’m not as jokey, I feel emotionally flat 24 hours of the day, I am even more messy and disorganized than I was before, and overall I feel like I’ve just lost my spark. I have been thinking about switching to Adderall out of hopes that I can get the same focused effects but still feel like myself when I’m on it but I’m scared that the switch will either make my symptoms worse or that I’ll just waste more time trying a medication that doesn’t work for me. I really need to lock in as this is my final semester before I graduate and I’m taking 18 credits but I don’t want this to throw me off even more. My question is, anyone who has made the switch from Vyvanse to Adderall, did you notice any difference in your behavior? Did you feel more like yourself? Did it make your anxiety worse? Also, for anyone to answer just in general, how exactly do you know if stimulants are not right for you? What were the signs that really solidified that for you? I’m really new to ADHD medication and although I knew that it wouldn’t be like some miracle drug that would suddenly turn me in some kind of Einstein, I definitely was not expecting this. Edit: I also want to note that I have done just about everything I can to make this medication work for me. I’ve increased my protein and water intake by the gallons, I exercise more frequently now, and I try to get minimum 8 hours of sleep a night but I still feel so detached and empty when I take this medication.
