When is swelling after a thyroid biopsy not normal?
Post Content
I had my 2nd thyroid biopsy almost 24 hours ago. I had my 1st one 3 years ago and the results came back benign. Recovery was fine - mild pain, mild swelling. Since then, the nodule grew in size (it’s around 3 cm now) and now my trachea is deviated and every surgeon I’ve seen wants me to take it out - which is why I was asked to go for a second biopsy. I had my 2nd biopsy almost 24 hours ago and the symptoms after are.. different. The doctor was aggressive during the biopsy (I felt everything) and he told me he drained all the fluid filled cysts and so decreased the size of the nodule which is weird because my thyroid looks bigger than it was pre-biopsy. The pain after biopsy peaked after 6 hours and I had to take some paracetamol, and I’ve been taking paracetamol ever since. Did my pain go down naturally? no, and I normally have good pain tolerance so if I’m taking pain killers then it’s too much :( Also my thyroid is swollen - bigger than it was pre biopsy. My neck feels tight. Every movement - whether it’s eating, talking, wearing clothes, is painful. The pain is cramp like - I literally can’t talk or my thyroid would cramp up. I didn’t have any of these symptoms when I had my first biopsy so I’m confused on whether this is normal or not. I have barely slept because every position is uncomfortable. However it has been almost 24 hours so I’m guessing this is not something serious as enough time has passed? But I don’t know :( Anyone went through something similar?
