Why do people not see celiac as a chronic illness?

I was talking to someone and she was talking about how women have a higher rate of chronic illness, she had graves disease. I mentioned that I have celiac, and she says that it's not the same as a chronic illness, and I don't have anyway to respond bc she just said a blanket statement. I've mentioned my chronic illness before, and people are always like "that's not really a chronic illness". If you Google, it will show that celiac is indeed a chronic illness.
