[Review] Found a LPR hand cream dupe and had creams in general
Post Content
As with many people during winter my hands get dry especially around my knuckles. Lucky I intervened before they cracked and sought out hand creams but went down a rabbit hole with them to find what truly worked for me. Firstly La Roche Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream is the best I’ve found. However I recently tried Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Intense Repair Unscented Hand Cream and I have found that it is very similar in texture, feel and results. And unlike the LPR one it actually contains cica! I’ve tried several hand creams and ointments. As a guy I wanted something that is not going to make my hands very greasy. Also admittedly I’m not reapplying cream throughout the day as I should. Maybe once during the day but I’ve been applying them religiously at night. So far I’ve found that a lot of hand creams are great at providing instant results, and sure enough they’ll clear up any glaring issues. However I found with a lot of them the next day my issues with dry skin would reappear. My knuckles are the driest part along with areas on the side of my fingers. None of the ones I initially tried really helped those areas long term. That is until I tried the above mentioned creams and found they actually truly healed my hands. Even if I haven’t applied anything for the whole day. So I wanted to break down and give my experience on different popular creams. Daily creams: O’Keeffe’s Working hand cream (tub version) 6.5/10. The first cream I reached for and a popular one for good reason. My only issue is it creates a greasy film on your skin. Not really practical for use throughout the day. You can really feel this on your skin. Didn’t do any wonders long term. Cerave reparative hand cream 7/10. It has a different texture to traditional creams and is similar to the ones mentioned in the beginning. As you rub this in it dries to a non greasy finish which I appreciate. Like most creams great at the time but didn’t do anything restorative. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Concentrated Unscented Hand Cream 6/10. Similar texture to Cerave. However I felt this matte drying finish made my hands drier than when I put it on. No real long term difference noted either. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Hand Cream 10/10. Game changer. Made my hands truly feel healed. Similar in texture to cerave. Has the same matte drying finish. The difference is this made my knuckles feel better than they ever had before. This is now my go to for the day. It has also got rid of dryness on the sides of my fingers. Disappointing though it doesn’t contain any cica. I have also used ointments and creams that I would use at night or even “slug” over one of the creams I’ve used above for a hand mask. Overnight creams: O’Keeffe’s Working Hands overnight cream 7.5/10 Different to the original product. Has a more greasy feeling compared to other creams thanks to the glycerin and Shea butter. Hands feel great in the morning. But like others, even after regular use I don’t think it had long term benefits. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Intense Repair Unscented Hand Cream 10/10. My night time version of the LPR hand cream. Very similar in texture and feel though feels slightly richer and takes a bit long to dry down to a matte finish. Really impressed with the long term results of this. And contains cica! Aquaphor 8.5/10. One of the greasiest feeling ointments. Which is one of its downsides. However it works great. Hands feel smooth and supple in the morning. It’s also great for many other uses like lips etc. but in terms of long term healing I don’t think it matches up with other on this list. CeraVe Advanced Repair Ointment 9.5/10. Similar to Aquaphor but less greasy feeling once it’s dried. My pick to use at night standalone or to slug with. Great for lips too. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ 7/10. Let me start off by saying this is a great balm. I would give it 10/10 for other uses. But for my hands and lips it dried them out even more. My hands felt fine the next day and it was soothing when applied but it dried down to a very dry finish. And it made my lips chapped even more after applying at night. So my rating is based purely on those uses. Hope this helps for anyone looking for a good hand cream. And as always what may work for me might not work for you and vice versa. Would be interested to hear if there are any creams that have worked well for you!
