Non narcotic medications

I have had anxiety my entire life. I finally went to a psychiatrist for it and since I have a history of drug abuse they won’t prescribe me any narcotics which I understand. However none of the medications I have tried are making a difference. I was on buspar and it didn’t make any difference and it made me extremely tired. Now I’m on something called propranolol that I’m supposed to take when I start having a panic attack but it doesn’t do anything at all even if I take 2. Is anyone in here on a nonnarcotic for anxiety and has felt an actual difference? I’m going to talk to my dr about it but I just wanted to get some insight first. Thank you !
